Renowned Nollywood actress, Jaiye Kuti, has shed light on the prevalent issue of marital challenges in Nigeria, attributing it primarily to cultural differences. According to Kuti, a significant number of couples grapple with these differences, leading to struggles in their marriages.

The actress shared a disconcerting observation about the state of marriages, revealing that 85% of Nigerian women express a desire to end their marriages. Jaiye Kuti herself has faced similar challenges, confessing to attempting to terminate her marriage on three occasions.

Expanding on her perspective, Kuti emphasized that cultural disparities become more apparent as marriages progress. She noted that men, in contrast, often find it relatively easy to end marriages, often driven by self-serving tendencies and infidelity.

“If you ask a hundred women, 85% want to exit their marriage. I even tried to leave like thrice. The issue is when you marry someone from a different tradition, and when a man wants to get married, he would treat and pamper a woman well. But when the second marriage and children are involved, everyone will start to show their true colors,” she explained. Kuti also highlighted the egocentric nature of some men and the challenge of preventing infidelity in marriages.
