This visit comes at a crucial time, as Africa contends with a multitude of crises, from coups and deadly conflicts to economic struggles and democratic backsliding.
Blinken’s visit aims to reassure African leaders of the United States’ commitment as a key economic and security partner, particularly amidst escalating regional and international crises. Notably, his trip follows closely on the heels of Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s recent African tour, highlighting a potential rivalry for influence on the continent.
